The General Difference:

ESAs or companion animals / therapy animals are meant to help alleviate the symptoms of a person's emotional distress while having less privileges than service or therapy animals.

Unlike the other two, ESAs are limited to only true housing and flying on board a plane. Remember, hotels don't fall into the category of housing.

Service Animals:

Service animals have to undergo an expensive training and a certification process to fulfill specific tasks that the handler cannot do by themself. Whereas, ESAs do not need training.
